A nine-year-old brownie from north Kent enjoyed an "amazing" encounter with Paralympian skiing guide Charlotte Evans.

Evie Martin, of the 2nd Farningham and Eynsford Brownies, met the athlete as part of the Brownies' centenary celebrations in Sussex.

The nine-year-old grilled the Paralympian medallist about her sporting life and wrote up the interview as an article, The Day I Met Charlotte Evans, to win her writing badge.

Charlotte is a guide for skiier Kelly Gallagher and the pair won gold at the Sochi Paralympic Games.

Evie wrote: "When I arrived at the bus stop to get on the coach (to Sussex) Barn Owl told me that I had been chosen to meet Charlotte in person, I felt really excited.

"As we arrived there I felt really happy and as our group walked into the hall I started to shake.

"I went up to meet Charlotte it felt amazing to actually meet an Olympian in real life - after I felt really happy to know I had done something exciting and it would be a memory for life."

The group leader Mandi Gornall said: "The girls had a great weekend full of activities including fencing, archery, giant swing and BMXing and, of course, birthday cake.

"One of the highlights of the weekend was getting to meet Paralympian medallist Charlotte Evans."
