The funeral of a well known former Hextable and Swanley councillor will take place this Friday (October 17).

Roger McInnes was on holiday with his wife Margaret in northern Cyprus when he fell ill and died suddenly of heart failure on September 19, aged 67.

His funeral is being held at Eltham Crematorium, on Friday at 3.15pm, with a wake to take place afterwards at Hextable Heritage Centre, of which he was a founding member.

Mr McInnes lived in Hextable for 42 years and served as a parish councillor for three years, also spending four years as a Swanley Town and Sevenoaks District councillor.

About two years ago Mr McInnes was made a freeman of the village and was also the local secretary for the RNLI and a keen fundraiser for the charity.

His daughter Claire White, said: “He was a lovely man. He would walk around the village and had time for everyone, he was always happy.

“Lots of people have got in touch to say how much he will be missed.”

On October 25 a charity football match between New Town Tigers under-9s and Hayden under-9s is being held in Mr McInnes’ memory at the New Town Tigers’ ground in Emerson Avenue, Hextable.

The event stars at 12pm and funds raised will go to the RNLI.

Roger is survived by his wife Margaret; three children Suzie, Claire, and Andy and by his four grandchildren Freddie, Amelia, Joshua, and Abigail.
