A cerebral palsy sufferer has allegedly been left devastated after her mobility scooter was stolen and burned to a wreck in Dartford.

Sonia Hergest visited her friend’s house in Lowfield Street on Sunday evening (September 14) when her specially adapted "lifeline" was stolen from outside.

She posted desperate appeals on the Dartford Gossip page, a Facebook forum, for its safe return only for the burned remnants of the scooter to be discovered in Dartford Skate Park off Cranford Road on Monday morning.

Ms Hergest posted on Dartford Gossip forum on Sunday evening: "Please can everyone keep an eye for my wheelchair, this is my only lifeline for getting out and about.

"It was stolen tonight from outside my friend’s house on Lowfield Street near Tree Estate."

The next day she posted: "Heartbroken.  My wheelchair has been found burnt out in Dartford skate park.

"Thank to all those who tried to help."

News Shopper:

Dartford Gossip contributor Katie Stevens posted: "Words have failed me today how the people whom have taken the wheelchair just couldn’t leave it in one piece somewhere instead of burning it. It’s so sad."

A Kent Police spokeswoman said: "We were called at around 8am today to a report a burnt out mobility scooter had been found in a skate park in Cranford Road, Dartford.

"Officers are making enquiries."
