A DARTFORD councillor went the extra mile to satisfy homeowners in his ward by handing out snow shovels and grit.

Newtown ward councillor Avtar Sandhu used his Kent County Council (KCC) highways grant to buy the equipment, which he distributed to homeowners in the Newtown, Littlebrook and Joyce Green wards.

The KCC member for Dartford north east handed out 200 bags of grit and 30 snow shovels when the snow fell across Kent in January.

He said: “KCC has a vast area to cover with grit.

“Their priority is always the roads and I’m privileged to be in a position where I can use some of my highways budget to make an immediate impact on the residents who voted for me.

“It was great to drive through to see the grit and shovels in use.”

This is the second consecutive winter Cllr Sandhu has used his highways grant to help combat the wintry weather.
