A THIRTY-five-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after being involved in yesterday’s Dartford Tunnel crash which caused massive delays.

The man, of Chatham in Kent, has been released on bail until Sunday, February 17, 2013 while police investigate.

Both Dartford Tunnel routes were closed yesterday after three cars and two lorries collided at around 7am.

The accident happened on the anti-clockwise carriageway between the Dartford tunnel and Junction 30.

Queues stretched for miles into Kent as drivers waited for the site to be cleared.

It was not until 10:30am that the West bore of the tunnel was opened back up.

Toll charges were then lifted on the northbound route 11.50am and reimposed at 2.30pm.

Four people were hurt in the crash and two people were seriously injured.

Kent Air Ambulance said two helicopters flew to the scene. One patient was a male driver in his late 20s.

He had injuries to his leg and chest and was treated at the scene.

He was flown to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

A rapid response vehicle also arrived to treat a 53-year-old male driver who suffered back injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to major treatment centre at Queens Hospital in Romford.

The fire brigade also attended.
