A RETIRED businessman from Orpington extradited to the US over allegations he tried to sell batteries for missiles to Iran has been denied bail.

Christopher Tappin, aged 65, was this evening refused bail by a judge in El Paso, Texas.

The father-of-two, from Farnborough Park, is currently in a jail in the New Mexico desert.

Former president of the Kent Golf Union Mr Tappin, who denies the charges against him, faces up to 35 years in prison if convicted.

Lost for words for Mr Tappin and his family. He has been let down by his country and the Home secretary. I for one will never have the desire to enter the USA again and will do allI can to boycot American goods. I pray for him and his wife and son.
