POLICE remain at the scene where Samuel Guidera was killed, with a forensic team at the spot where he was stabbed and officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

Mr Guidera was found collapsed in the street in Newlands Park, opposite the junction of Bailey Place, at around 9.55pm on Saturday, around 200m from Penge East railway station.

The 24-year-old University of Greenwich student was rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead at around 10.55pm.

Mr Guidera lived in St John’s Road, just metres from where he was killed, and he had got off a train at Penge East railway station and was on his way to meet a friend when he was attacked.

Met Police detectives suspect Mr Guidera may have been stabbed in a botched robbery, and a forensic team has put up a tent at the spot where he collapsed to scour the site for evidence.

Officers are also speaking to people living nearby to see if anybody witnessed the fatal stabbing.

Police say nobody has been arrested so far.

Mr Guidera’s friends and family have placed flowers in Newlands Road to pay tribute to the history and politics student, who hoped to become a teacher.

Four of his friends left flowers with a card saying: “Sweet Sam, summer will never be the same without you.

“Missing you and love you forever.”

Newlands Road residents say they are shocked by the stabbing as the area is normally quiet and peaceful.

Lucas Mucek, aged 29, said: “This is a very quiet street, so it’s very shocking that this has happened.”

Jack Patel, aged 63, who runs Jack’s Quick Stop newsagents, said: “All my customers have been talking about it and they are very upset.

“It’s such a shame for a young man to die in such a way.”
