A Lewisham man has been jailed for 10 years after committing two 'horrific and violent' robberies on lone women in Deptford after following them from the night bus

Orville Emmil, 55, of New King Street, robbed two lone women on separate occasions in the early hours of the morning after stalking them from the night bus.

On November 26 last year around 1.40am, Emmil followed a woman to her house in Bruford Court, Deptford after she got off the night bus on the High Street.

As she approached her front door he grabbed her by the neck and pulled her backwards, causing her to lose consciousness.

When the woman regained consciousness, she found her bag had been pulled off her should and her purse had been taken.

A few days later on November 30 last year around 4.10am, Emmil attacked a 21 year-old woman in an alleyway on Abinger Grove, Deptford after following her from the night bus.

The victim struggled with Emmil when he put his arm across her throat but he tightened his grip around her neck and she lost consciousness.

When she awoke, she noticed her bag was gone.

Police were able to identify Emmil from descriptions given by the victims and was immediately arrested.

In custody, police found Emmil in possession of an Oyster card and cigarette light belonging to the victim of the second robbery.

Emmil was charged on December 1 last year with two counts of robbery.

Lewisham CID detective constable Andrew Khan said: "These robberies were of a horrific and violent nature.

"The defendant has shown no remorse for his reprehensible actions, which has left both victims traumatised.

"The sentence reflects the magnitude of these offences and the impact they've had."

Emmil was sentenced yesterday (June 16) at Woolwich Crown Court after being found guilty of two counts of robbery, receiving ten years of each offence to run concurrently.
