Two police officers from Lewisham are recovering after they were run over by a suspect on a moped.
Police were called to Waterway Avenue at 11.34pm last night (June 15) following reports of a disturbance.
Two suspects on separate mopeds then attempted to leave the scene. As they did so, the first moped struck one officer and ran her over.
A second officer suffered an ankle injury after being struck by the same moped.
Both officers were taken to a south London hospital by London Ambulance Service.
The first officer, a 22-year-old female suffered a broken collar bone.
The second officer, a 38-year-old male received treatment for an ankle injury.
Both officers have now been discharged from hospital.
The two suspects were arrested a short while later in New Cross.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of GBH after being spotted nearby by the Air Support Unit.
The other moped driver - a 20-year-old man - was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police.
Both men have been to a south London police station for questioning.
A police helicopter search was underway over Lewisham early this morning (June 16)
People across the area reported hearing the helicopter buzzing overhead sometime after 3am.
The Met’s helicopter unit tweeted: “For all concerned about the helicopter over Lewisham, we were searching for a motorbike that had run over and injured a police officer.”
