Police are hunting a man with Greenwich links wanted for the brutal murder of a man outside a pub.

Chris Foster had been drinking with friends outside the St Christopher's Inn pub on Borough High Street on November 29 2013 when he was killed in a case of mistaken identity.

A group of men, including some of the defendants, suddenly appeared with their faces hidden by hoods and scarves. At least one had a bat and another a knife.

Mr Foster was stabbed once from behind in the back. He managed to get inside the pub where he collapsed and died 90 minutes later at the Royal London Hospital.

Four people have been jailed for their part in the murder but police want to find Aydin Salih, who has family links to Greenwich and Bermondsey.

Mr Salih, a cousin of two men already convicted, who fled the country following the murder. Police have released a CCTV image of him at Heathrow airport, leaving the UK.

Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Ken Hughes, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "Aydin Salih was named in court as being involved in the murder of Chris and enquiries continue to trace him.

"It is believed he fled to Northern Cyprus immediately after the murder but he may have since moved on. He has family in the UK, including a child, and it seems likely he would have maintained his connections to this country.

"We are appealing for anyone with information that could help our enquiries to come forward and speak to us confidentially.

"Chris was an entirely innocent party and a hard-working father who paid with his life for the fatal mistake."

The police investigation was covered last night, in an episode of BBC documentary The Met: Policing London.
