A 19 year-old man has been jailed after a Christmas Eve shooting in New Cross.

Troy Jones of Lovelinch Close was sentenced to five years imprisonment at Woolwich Crown Court after pleading guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police were called to an incident in Lovelinch Close on December 24 last year where they found a 20 year-old man had been shot in the stomach.

A search was carried out on January 14 at Jones' address where a sawn-off shotgun and six rounds of ammunition were recovered from his bedroom.

Jones was arrested at the location for possession of a prohibited weapon and later charged with this offence.

An 18 year-old woman was also arrested but later released without charge.

Five other people arrested at the time of the shooting were also released without charge.

No further action was taken against Jones in connection with the shooting.

Trident Gang Command investigating officer DC Martyn Clews said: "Jones is a dangerous individual and I am pleased the court has seen fit to give him a custodial sentence.

"We will actively pursue people who engage in the carrying and distribution of weapons to ensure lethal firearms like this are removed from the streets of London."

Jones was sentenced on May 27.
