A Plumstead man who encouraged a gang to perform appalling acts of torture and abuse on a kidnapped 14-year-old girl has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.

The girl was approached while walking to school last September by 18-year-olds Caylen Candy and Chyanne Powell, who kidnapped her and subjected the child to "cowardly and malicious acts of violence".

During her 16-hour ordeal she was subjected to a series of brutal attacks in Waltham Cross. Sanjay Kaliah, 18, of Macoma Road, Plumstead, was sent footage of the abuse and, along with another man, egged on the kidnappers to further vile acts.

Kalia admitted aiding and abetting and false imprisonment and was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court yesterday (May 18).

Candy from Hackney and Powell from Waltham Cross, admitted a string of charges and were sentenced to six years and seven years respectively.

After the hearing DC Ian Minnis from Hertfordshire Police said: "The sentences reflect the horror of what our victim endured and I hope they mark a turning point in her recovery from what would have been a terrifying ordeal."
