A second man has been arrested for a double stabbing in Plumstead which saw up to 12 youths charging around armed with metal poles.

Police were called at around 9.30pm on Wednesday (May 6) following reports of a double stabbing at Elmley Street on the Glyndon Estate.

A 23-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder and has since been bailed until mid-June pending further enquiries.

Police say they have now arrested a second man, aged 19, for the same offence. He has been bailed until late next month.

The injured men, both 20, were taken by London Ambulance Service to hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

Residents say part of Elmley Street, which is not far from where police were threatened with knives after chasing a stolen car on Sunday, was cordoned off by officers.

One witness said: "I saw them working on a body and then they took them on a stretcher.

“Another person was walking into an ambulance.

"There was a gang of around 12 with poles running around."

Officers from the Greenwich Violent Organised Crime Unit are investigating.

They would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the assault, saw anyone running from the scene or saw a vehicle in the area.

Enquiries continue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
