A woman was arrested after a 52-year-old man was found stabbed in Thamesmead.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 5.44pm on March 24 after a man was found with stab wounds in Linnet Close.

They found the man with stab wounds to his chest and stomach.

He was taken to a central London hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police were still inside the ground floor flat this morning (March 25) as neighbours spoke of their shock.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said police were often called to the flat because of drunken fighting, and strangers came in and out of the properties at all hours.

Another woman, who complained of flat windows being smashed by vandals and left unfixed for weeks, said the victim lived in the flat with his partner.

She said: "It's absolutely terrible. I've never experienced anything like it in all my life and I've been here for 28 years now."

A 52-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. She has since been bailed to a date in mid April.

Officers from Greenwich police are investigating.
