An 11-year-old girl was paid £2 by an Abbey Wood man who sexually abused her for four years, a court heard.

Alex Baah, 42, of Bolstall Hill, allegedly began assaulting the girl while she was in junior school in 2008.

He raped the girl once or twice a week at an address in New Addington for the next four years, the Old Bailey was told.

The alleged victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, complained to police in August 2013 when she was aged 15.

She told police during a recorded interview that her alleged abuser would give her money after he raped her.

She said: "He was, like, 'take off your knickers'. I did and put them under the pillow and then... He gave me £2 extra."

The alleged victim, now aged 16, told officers the earliest attack she could remember took place when she was just 11.

Prosecutor Jennifer Knight said: "She has very little recollection of all the detail of the very earliest incidents.

The victim also remembered being raped by Baah when she was 12.

Ms Knight added: "From that time, she was raped regularly, once or twice a week."

After an attack in early August 2013, the alleged victim told friends about the abuse and the police were informed.

Baah, originally from Ghana, was arrested and denied having ever touched the girl sexually.

He has denied two counts of raping a child under the age of 13 and five counts of rape of the same victim between 2008 and 2013.
