A victim left drops of blood along a New Eltham parade of shops before disappearing, police say.
Police were called to Footscray Road near the Beehive pub at 12.30pm on March 8 following reports of "an altercation".
Officers arrived at the scene, where they found what they believe to be traces of blood on the pavement. The parade was then cordoned off.
The victim, described by witnesses as a white man in his 30s with facial injuries, was not present at the scene and is yet to be identified by detectives.
No arrests have been made so far.
