A man was reportedly stabbed in the face outside the Woolwich Tesco supermarket, sparking a police appeal for the attacker.
Witnesses say passers-by gave the man, believed to be in his late 20s, first aid after finding him collapsed in a pool of blood outside the General Gordon Square store.
Police cordoned off several roads around the complex, which also includes a library along with council offices and facilities.
A spokesman for the Met Police said they had been called at 6.16pm on Friday following reports of a stabbing in Love Lane.
The victim is currently in a stable condition in hospital.
Investigating officers say they are looking for a black man, around 30, of medium build, wearing dark clothing, a bomber jacket and black baseball cap.
Anyone with information should call Greenwich police on 020 8284 9543 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
