A 40-year-old lorry driver has been charged with causing the death of Taiwanese student Yun-Yi Chen in Catford last year.

The 13-year-old student - known to pals as Sharon - was on her way to summer school when she was hit by a lorry in Brownhill Road near the junction with Stainton Road at around 7.35am on July 16.

Emergency services were called but Sharon - who had been due to fly home the following week - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her three-week stay in this country had been organised by Twin Group, a Lewisham-based organisation.

Police say Philip Madhani, from Worthing in Sussex, has now been charged with one count of causing death by careless driving.

He will appear on bail at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (Feb 17).
