Lewisham's newest nightclub faces having its licence reviewed after of a huge fight took place outside it last month.

The Met Police have asked for a review of Skye in Lewisham High Street and councillors will meet this week to discuss the venue.

It follows a large fight outside the club on December 20 which saw seven people arrested and charged with offences including affray.

When it opened last year, manager John Fortune said safety was important, promising eight security staff and saying: "Unfortunately Lewisham does have some negative connotations attached to it, although those who know the area know that the disconnect between people’s beliefs of the area and the actual area itself, is vast – especially in the High Street which is, of course, only a stone’s throw from Europe's biggest police station."

But a spokesman for the Lewisham police said there had been several incidents of crime and disorder linked to the club, including the serious incident on December 20.

He said: "We can confirm that officers from Lewisham's Licensing Unit have requested a review of the premises licence for the Skye nightclub in Lewisham High Street."

Skye were unavailable for comment.
