Alcohol was a major factor in the tragic deaths of two foreign students who fell from a sixth-storey balcony whilst kissing and cuddling.

Anastasia Tutik, 19, from Russia and Miguel Ramos, 18, from Mexico, plunged to their death from a sixth-floor balcony of Knights Tower in Deptford on June 9,  Southwark Coroner’s Court heard.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Ramos had 393 milligrams of alcohol in his body when he died, as well as codeine and diazepam, which “played a very significant role” in the death of the two teenagers.

Mr Ramos had asked to be introduced to Ms Tutik at the house party in Knights Tower, telling one of his friends he thought she was cute.

Blessing Adedoyin, who lives on the sixth floor of Knights Tower, along with her husband, saw the incident unfold.

She confirmed she saw the pair kissing and cuddling on the balcony for around two minutes before the tragic fall.

She said: “She had her legs open and the man was touching her legs, she had her arms around his neck, the man looked very drunk because he was walking around when she was still.

“The pair were called back in by their friends but returned to the spot on the balcony shortly after.

“I was saying to my husband that somebody would end up falling because there had been a lot of parties at that apartment.

“I saw the man’s leg give way and they both went down together.”

Both Ms Tutik and Mr Ramos died of multiple injuries.

Mr Ramos had only arrived in England in September and Ms Tutik was due to return to home to Russia two days after the tragedy.

Coroner Dr Andrew Harris supported Dr Biedryzki’s belief that alcohol had played a significant role in the accident and that neither of the deceased would have done something so dangerous had they not been under the influence of alcohol.

He also said: “Neither family is here and tragically they will have to celebrate Christmas without their young children.

“I can only hope they found some comfort in their own company.”
