A Catford man accused of stabbing a teenager to death on his 19th birthday has been acquitted of murder in Greece.

Tyrell Matthews-Burton was fatally knifed in Malia outside a club in July 2013.

But Catford 20-year-old Myles Litchmore-Dunbar, who was arrested for murder, had always denied any involvement and was finally acquitted this week after spending more than a year in jail.

Mr Litchmore-Dunbar had maintained he was trying to break up a fight involving multiple British tourists.

His DNA was not found on any of the weapons recovered from the scene and the court believed his version of events.

Mr Litchmore-Dunbar, who was convicted of affray, said he now wanted to return to university in the UK.

His acquittal marks relief for the student's family who had raised serious concerns over the conditions he faced in the Greek prison system. They had been joined by Lewisham East MP Heidi Alexander in calling for the case to be brought to the UK.

Speaking to News Shopper earlier this year, dad Chris Dunbar said: "Everybody was British, I think the British government has a vested interest in this.

"We know if the British police used their expertise they will find the perpetrators.

"They found three bloodied knives but only kept my son. It was a brawl up to 30 people fighting but they only kept one. Unless my son is extraordinary, which he isn’t, how would he use three knives?

"He had so much going for him, his career, his studies, trying to pursue a modelling career."
