Thamesmead murder victim Olamide Fasina died from a stab wound to the heart, police say.
Mr Fasina, also known as Ben or Trigger, was chased by a gang of armed men into an alleyway off Wolvercote Road on Thamesmead's Tavy Bridge estate on Tuesday (October 14), before being stabbed and left to die.
Witnesses described his attackers as carrying an eight-inch blade and a hacksaw, saying he was "crawling for help" after the attack which may have been sparked by a £400 debt.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Although formal identification has not taken place, officers are satisfied the deceased is Olamide Fasina, 25, of Erith. He also known as Ben."
Yesterday (October 16), a post-mortem examination was held at the Princess Royal Hospital and gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.
Despite a large-scale investigation, there have been no arrests so far and police are still appealing for wtinesses.
Detective Chief Inspector Russell Taylor, who is leading the investigation for the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and may have seen either the build up to this incident or the aftermath following the assault.
"There would have been a significant number of people around at this time of day and I would urge anyone who can assist this investigation to contact the incident room without delay."
