A man was savagely beaten with a metal pole in a Thamesmead street according to witnesses.
The attack is believed to have taken place at around 7pm on the border of Thamesmead and Abbey Wood.
These pictures taken by local photographer Robbie Gunn appear to show police officers attending to the victim.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Police were called to Corraline Walk after reports of a man being chased by a man with a metal pole.
Officers attended the scene and a short while later found a 29-year-old man suffering from a cut to his head in Wolvercote Road.
"The victim was taken to a south London hospital. His injuries are not believed to be serious.
"Officers from Bexley CID continue to investigate the circumstances around the incident."
