A 39-YEAR-OLD Greenwich journalist has been arrested over allegations of phone hacking at the News of the World.

The man is one of six people arrested over an alleged conspiracy to intercept telephone voicemails by employees of the now defunct paper.

Detectives from the Met's Operation Weeting say the suspected conspiracy is believed to have taken place during 2005 and 2006.

It is separate from the allegations already being investigated by police, in which a number of people have been charged.

The suspects are all being interviewed at various police stations in London and Cheshire and searches are being carried out at a number of addresses.

A Met Police spokesman said: "In due course officers will be making contact with people they believe have been victims of the suspected voicemail interceptions."
