FRIENDS of murdered Greenhithe teenager Claire Tiltman re-traced her final steps by candlelight on Friday evening (January 18).

Marking the 20th anniversary of her brutal murder, which saw her stabbed more than 40 times in an alleyway just metres from London Road, candles and lights were carried along the road before a congregation met in St Mary’s Church.

Police officers who were on duty on January 18, 1993 - the night 16-year-old Claire was stabbed - were among those who joined the memorial parade.

Dartford MP Gareth Johnson also attended, having brought the unsolved murder investigation to the attention of Prime Minister David Cameron during Prime Minister’s Questions on January 15.

Responding to the MP's question, Mr Cameron told the House of Commons: "It is a particularly tragic case because the parents of this girl have both died.

"Of course we will do everything we can but above all it’s for other people, anyone who knows anything about this case, to talk to Kent Police."

Claire’s mother Lin died in 2008 and in September last year, her father Cliff died after many years of campaigning to bring his only daughter’s killer to justice.

But in the week Claire would have turned 36, her best friend from school Lisa Gribbin has launched a campaign alongside Kent Police to appeal for any new information into her death.

Anyone with information on Claire’s murder should call the incident room on 01634 884010 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
