POLICE are appealing for information after a woman was repeatedly punched on a crowded Tube after calling a fellow passenger a “smelly Nigerian”.

Video footage shows the woman and her attacker quarrelling before he aimed blows on the train between Old Street and Moorgate.

Watch the video footage below but BEWARE as it contains offensive language and violence.

Passengers dived in to break up the fight – following an escalating argument between the pair - which was caught on camera and uploaded to YouTube on January 9, although it is believed the incident took place on January 8.

A 20-year-old man from Lewisham has come forward to help officers with their inquiries but British Transport Police (BTP) still wish to identify the woman in the clip.

A BTP spokeswoman said: “On Saturday, January 12a 20-year-old man from Lewisham voluntarily attended a London police station in connection with the incident and is helping officers with their inquiries.

“We still need to speak to the woman pictured in the images so we can try to establish exactly what took place.

“We continue to urge her or anyone who knows her, as well as any passengers who were on the train at the time, to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B7/LUA of 10/01/13, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
