A MAN has been locked up for life after "executing" Matthew Clement at his front gate in Brockley with a pistol.

The 23-year-old was shot at three times outside a friend's house where he was staying in Whitbread Road at around 1.30am on May 30 2010.

One bullet grazed his chest, but the second was fired into his back - causing massive internal bleeding - and he managed to run around the corner before collapsing and dying in Howson Road.

His body was eventually found by a woman walking home with her 13-year-old daughter.

Taurean Davis, 27, of no fixed address, was given a life sentence for murder at the Old Bailey on December 19 with no right of release for 30 years.

Detectives from Trident Gang Command found that texts and calls had been exchanged between Mr Clement and associates of Taurean Davis that evening.

CCTV captured a silver Vauxhall Astra known to be used by Davis on the night of the attack and forensic tests indicated the murder weapon was possibly a Smith & Wesson.

Detective Inspector Jim Gerty said: "We may never know what the motive for Matthew's murder was but what we do know is that it would appear he was lured to a meeting of some sort and executed.

"We are pleased with the jury's verdict today and satisfied that this dangerous criminal will now spend a considerable amount of time in prison." Davis was found guilty of murder on October 18.
