Mum-of-two dies after road accident

FLOWERS in Beckenham High Street mark the spot where a young mother-of-two was tragically killed on Friday.

Family and friends have left flowers and cards paying tribute to popular and attractive young mother who was killed in a collision with a VW Golf at the traffic lights outside the Box Bar in Beckenham High Street at around 8.53pm on Friday.

The woman was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time after.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into police custody.

At the scene yesterday morning (January 27) people were stopping to read the cards and to remember the woman who is believed to be Cheryl McGoldrick from Beckenham.

A bystander and friend of Cheryl's told the News Shopper she had two sons, born nine months apart, both aged four.

It is believed Cheryl, aged 26, had been for a meal in the Box Bar and was crossing the road when she collided with a car.

Messages at scene read: "Cheryl, our hearts are broken. You will be in our hearts forever."

Another friend had written: "A tragedy to lose such a young life with so much promise."

Another wrote: "We cherish that you were part of our lives. We will love you always in our hearts. Sweet dreams angel."

My heart goes out to this young lady and all her family. This is tragic. Friends and I were in the Rascasse that evening and witnessed all the emergency services from across the road. It really did effect us all. I've thought of nothing else since, so how that family must be I could never imagine, but please take some comfort that we are all thinking of you. God bless

Cheryl and I were caravan best friends. We had such fun times growing up and the years we spent down the van being babysitters to her brother's and sisters and my cousins are some of my nicest childhood memories. I hadn't seen Cheryl for quite a few years but always asked about her when I saw anyone who knew her and always remembered her with such affection, she was such a great person. Last time we spoke we promised each other that we would catch up soon, now that's never going to happen and it's made me very sad. Such a tragic tragic loss. Her sons were lucky to have such a special mum and I know they'll be looked after well by her family. My love goes out to all the McGoldricks and her boys. All my love, Nancy x

I was friends with Cheryl’s sister Charlotte at primary school and always remember Cheryl to be so generous and kind spirited. She would let us dance in her bedroom with the music blaring and sometimes bring back little presents for her younger brother and sisters after she’d been to the shops for the day. The many messages here are testament to her caring nature and to her family who made her such a happy and loveable young woman. My thoughts are with you all. x

Cheryl is the closest person to a younger sister I had and I loved her with all my heart she was so kind and loving, she was an absolute credit to this world. She was truly unique whenever I saw her everything lit up, she had the ability to make you laugh even on the saddest of days and make you feel so special, it would fill you with warmth by just looking at her. Even from a little girl she made me laugh, her cheeky grin and beautiful eyes would fill me with joy. It was an absolute honour to have Cheryl in my life. I will be lost without her and will never ever forget her and the wonderful times we shared. My deepest condolences go out to Maxine and all of the family at this absolute tragic time.
