Tributes to Josh Beasley

THE headteacher of Josh Beasley's school has spoken of his shock at the news of the student's body being found.

The 17-year-old, of Effingham Road, Lee, went missing after going out drinking with his friends in Greenwich on Christmas Eve.

A body found in the River Thames one mile down river from the Thames Barrier on Monday (January 21) - one month after he went missing - has been identified as Josh.

Rob Thomas, headteacher of Thomas Tallis School, Kidbrooke Park Road, Blackheath, said: "We had all hoped that the search would result in Josh being returned safely but unfortunately, it now appears that our worst fears have come to pass.

"Josh was a very popular boy with a bright future ahead of him and everyone at the school is shocked at this news.

"This is a very difficult time for the school but we are a strong community and we will work together to provide support for everyone in coming to terms with losing Josh.

"Above all, our thoughts are with Josh's family at this tragic time."

The Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock said: "I know this awful news will touch the hearts of everyone who hears it.

"Our thoughts are entirely with Joshua's parents, family and friends at what must be an unimaginable painful time for them.

"There can be no doubt that Joshua will be remembered with affection by so many people."

Greenwich Council Leader Chris Roberts said: "This is tragic news and our thoughts are with Josh's family.

"This has come as a shock to everyone at Thomas Tallis, where Josh was a talented and popular pupil."

I live just around the corner from Thomas Tallis school and all the kids I saw walking home on Wednesday had their heads bowed and looked very upset. Now I know why. Poor lad. Like everyone, I had been following the story since he went missing and had hoped for a positive outcome. I work in Riverside House, Woolwich, in Children's Services, and in the lifts were Josh's pic and a notice asking for info of his whereabouts. I feel so badly for his family. It must be horrible. RIP young man

As a Greenwich mother of 2 boys of similar age, I was struck by the photos of Josh that I saw where-ever I went in recent weeks. Each time, I whispered: "Please get back safe", as if trying to influence fate. But now the sad outcome is known, and I feel affected as if he was a friend of the family. If only I could alleviate some of the pain that Josh's family and friends must feel, I would more easily carry my own grief. Josh will for ever have a place in my heart.

I never met Josh, but I know his friends, those who saw him last, and I know how frantic they have been in searching for him. Now the worst possible outcome has been realised, and my thought are with his friends and family, who have no doubt lost a shining star in their lives.

    Paul and Ruth,
Like everyone else here we were shocked to fisrt hear of Josh going missing and then seeing the posters. We remember Josh from the nursery and what is clear from the comments is that he grew up to be a wonderful young man. Over these last weeks you were never far from our thoughts, and never more so than now. All our love.

This is just so sad, i was just going through like .. facebook to see if you'd come home yet and you're dead. I didn't know you personally but so many of my friends did and they all say you're a really nice person and i'm not just saying it nor were they - we're really honest people, they really meant it.. it's such a cruel thing to have done, especially on xmas eve - my thoughts go to your family and gf who loves you and wanted you so desperately to be okay, i'm sorry this happened to you.. it feels so much more real when it's so close to you. Rest in Peace Josh, you are still loved, it's a shame your talent has been wasted like this ****
