Matty,

We will never get over the loss of your shining, happy face.

As I said to you on Sunday, after your outstanding performance for the Under 12's, I don't know what we would do without you.

I guess, now, we will have to find out, but it will be hard and I know I can speak for all of your Managers, Coaches, players and friends at Fleetdown United, as well as the entire club, when I say that you truely were a unique and irreplaceable young man.

Wherever you are now, I know that you will always be that happy, young player who touched so many, so quietly and with such grace.

God Rest, Matty.

We miss you with all our hearts.

I'll never forget how much you made me laugh at training, you always had a different saying each week. i'll never forget your glowing smile, and how relieved i was seeing you pick up the ball not to mention how scared i was when i thought you would miss the ball, but like always you shone. Matt i kept my promise and got your goalie gloves. you will always be in my dream team and will always be my super goalie. And no matter where you are you will always have a place in my heart. I learned of Matthew's accident early on Wednesday and I have thought much about him and his family since. He clearly was an energetic, talented and sociable young man and, has been written here, was a credit to his parents and his family. His family will miss him most of all, but Dartford depends on decent young people like Matthew and everyone in the community will miss him and has been robbed of the very fine man he would undoubtedly have become. To the family,

I did not know the little boy who was so untimely taken from you, but know a boy who was in his class at WGSB.

My thoughts are with you at this terrible time, and I want to share with you this poem which I hope will bring you comfort:

I lend you for a little time,
A child of mine he said,
To care for all the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead,
It may be 6 or 7 years,
Or 22 or 3,
But will you til I call him back,
Take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief,
You'll have his loving memories,
As solace for your grief.

God Bless -x-x-x-

I myself find it and am currently finding it incredibly difficult to deal with mortality, so as of yet I can only imagine how this feels to him at the moment.

I knew Matt personally as one of Duncan's friends. He was the only year 7 I knew and although it's little comfort he is definitely irreplaceable.

I sincerely hope that you are OK Duncan, and I can only offer my condolences, tenfold.

Many who knew him referred to him affectionately as "Mini-Duncan" and noted that, like his brother, they couldn't possibly imagine him without a smile on this face.

Also from Jon as a little extra note:

"Stay strong mate, little dunc's smiling at you from heaven"

I have been reading all the comments, and can hardly see the screen for the tears that are pouring down my face, I never knew Matthew, but my son goes to York Rd, where Matthew used to go, and is always asking me when he can walk to school without me. I keep saying "not yet" and how glad i am that I have stuck by my word. Obviously, my son is younger by a few years than Matthew, and I can only imagine the despair and shock the whole family are going through at this tragic time. My heart goes out to you all, and hope that even though anything anyone says will not make you feel any better, everyone is thinking of you and wishing you heartfelt thoughts at this terrible time.
