WITNESSES to a fatal road accident are being asked to step forward.

The crash, which occurred on the A227 Wrotham Road, in Meopham, claimed the life of 46-year-old Paul Philpot.

Mr Philpot was riding a motorcycle at around 1.50pm when he collided with a grey Audi A3 on Sunday (November 4).

Another motorcycle was also involved in the crash, which took place on the main road just outside the George Inn Public House.

Mr Philpot, of Hurst Road, Erith, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second motorcyclist and the driver of the Audi A3 were treated for minor injuries and shock.

The road was closed for around 5 hours while forensics officers and police officers from Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit gathered evidence.

Mr Philpot's wife, Karen, paid tribute to her "wonderful" husband.

She said: "Paul was a wonderful husband and father, with such a passion for life.

"He was much-loved by all who knew him and he will leave a big hole in the lives of his family and friends who all miss him dearly."

If anyone witnessed this collision or has any other information, please contact Sergeant Stephen Freeman from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538

I had not seen Paul in ages and only recently received an email from him as we had not made a contact for a long while. I was totally shocked and upset when my parents rang me this week to tell me the tragic news. Being in the Fire Service means I have attendend many traffic collisions on the roads and see first hand the devasation caused by all vehicles in situations like this. The pain and loss to any family must simply be horrific. I still ride a bike myself and am now questioning whether I should still ride? My heart goes out to Karen and Pauls family xxx

Paul was more than a brother-in-law to me, he has been a central, vital and dearly loved part of my family for almost all my life. All of us are simply devastated by losing him, Karen has lost the love and rock of her life, John, James and Laura, a truly superb and loving dad, and I have lost my big brother. Having read all the lovely, heartfelt messages of those who were lucky enough to have met him, I feel so proud. Thank you everyone who has shared their memories of Paul with us.

I knew Paul for just over a year, & in that time I grew to love everything about him. He welcomed me into the family like I'd known him for years. He was hilarious, always laughing & joking, even at himself. He absolutely adored his wife & his 3 gorgeous children. Such a wonderful man who really would do anything for anyone. Cruel that a life so precious has been taken. All we can do now is remember the good times & help each other get through the pain day by day. My heart goes out to the whole family. I worked with Paul since 1995 and could not have wished to meet a nicer, kinder more generous person. Larger than life and irrepresible, he always had a smile, laugh or joke for anyone that needed cheering up. I, along with everyone that knew him, will miss him greatly but my life would have been much poorer had I not been lucky enough to call him my friend. Toodles Paul.

Thank you so much to everyone who has commented on here and all those who have sent cards and flowers and their sympathy to the family. Such a huge void has been left now that Dad is gone, devastation is the only word to describe the feelings felt by the family and judging by the comments anyone that ever met him.
He really would be loving the attention he has received though, even if he's not actually here to appreciate it. Not too sure about the 'Rubber Legs' comment though, that did make me laugh.
Missing your laughter, kindness and love Dad.
Love you forever

If Pauls premature demise has in some way enlightened the rest of us
as to the grim finish below the glossy veneer of life, and inspired
you to change your ways, then his death carries with it an inherent nobility
and a supreme glory. We should all be so fortunate.
You can say "Poor Paul." I say: "Poor us."
