Matty,

We will never get over the loss of your shining, happy face.

As I said to you on Sunday, after your outstanding performance for the Under 12's, I don't know what we would do without you.

I guess, now, we will have to find out, but it will be hard and I know I can speak for all of your Managers, Coaches, players and friends at Fleetdown United, as well as the entire club, when I say that you truely were a unique and irreplaceable young man.

Wherever you are now, I know that you will always be that happy, young player who touched so many, so quietly and with such grace.

God Rest, Matty.

We miss you with all our hearts.

I learned of Matthew's accident early on Wednesday and I have thought much about him and his family since. He clearly was an energetic, talented and sociable young man and, has been written here, was a credit to his parents and his family. His family will miss him most of all, but Dartford depends on decent young people like Matthew and everyone in the community will miss him and has been robbed of the very fine man he would undoubtedly have become. To the family,

I did not know the little boy who was so untimely taken from you, but know a boy who was in his class at WGSB.

My thoughts are with you at this terrible time, and I want to share with you this poem which I hope will bring you comfort:

I lend you for a little time,
A child of mine he said,
To care for all the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead,
It may be 6 or 7 years,
Or 22 or 3,
But will you til I call him back,
Take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief,
You'll have his loving memories,
As solace for your grief.

God Bless -x-x-x-

I myself find it and am currently finding it incredibly difficult to deal with mortality, so as of yet I can only imagine how this feels to him at the moment.

I knew Matt personally as one of Duncan's friends. He was the only year 7 I knew and although it's little comfort he is definitely irreplaceable.

I sincerely hope that you are OK Duncan, and I can only offer my condolences, tenfold.

Many who knew him referred to him affectionately as "Mini-Duncan" and noted that, like his brother, they couldn't possibly imagine him without a smile on this face.

Also from Jon as a little extra note:

"Stay strong mate, little dunc's smiling at you from heaven"

I have been reading all the comments, and can hardly see the screen for the tears that are pouring down my face, I never knew Matthew, but my son goes to York Rd, where Matthew used to go, and is always asking me when he can walk to school without me. I keep saying "not yet" and how glad i am that I have stuck by my word. Obviously, my son is younger by a few years than Matthew, and I can only imagine the despair and shock the whole family are going through at this tragic time. My heart goes out to you all, and hope that even though anything anyone says will not make you feel any better, everyone is thinking of you and wishing you heartfelt thoughts at this terrible time.

Dear Val, Len & Duncan,
You may not remember us, but Matthew and you Duncan attended our martial arts school many years ago. I can still see the smile on Matt's face and the twinkle in his eyes as he would enter the hall. He was such a bubbly little boy in those days, full of so much energy. Hearing this news was ever so sad and all I have done is think of the days when he trained with us. I feel so hurt as a mum and can't even begin to imagine what you all are going through. As parents we do our utmost to protect our children, we never think of losing a child, always think that we would leave this world before them. I can't even find the right words to express how we are all feeling at the club, everyone remembers Matt as if he was still there. Thinking of you all at this sad time, be strong and remember he'll aways be nearby and watching over you all. RIP Matt. Kam, Sammi, Jake, Dylan and everyone at KBSOMA - god bless you ****

Matthew,
You had become so familiar to our family.
Just like Duncan and Keavy, you and Lewis had been in the same year at the same primary and Junior schools.
You played in the same Fleetdown football team and we were so happy when we found out that you were both going to be at the same secondary school. What parent wouldn't be?
Like others, we thought you were going to be around us for a long time to come. No one heard the approaching footsteps of the angels, coming to take you to a better place.Perhaps we take too much for granted but you touched the hearts of us all and we are so privileged to have known such a lovely little boy.

Val, Len and Duncan
What can we say?
We pray that the ache in your hearts moves away to allow you to enjoy all the beautiful memories of Matthew.
He's only a thought away
God Bless you all

Pity you cannot show the same bravery and compassion as Matthews parents towards the lady bus driver, speed was not an issue in this tragic accident. As for the driver she is undergoing counselling and will not return to driving any vehicle.I know this is not as big a loss as Matthews parent have suffered, but it is a life that has suffered. She is human.

I sit at the Next Generation Gym lights four times a day, while doing the school run to and from The Leigh Academy and Dartford West - I agree these fasttrack buses go bombing over the lights, due to the fact that the lights change for them - so they do not have to slow down. I have often sat and thought this was always an accident waiting to happen, especially with youngsters who do not have the years of road experience we have as adults/parents. I have watched as children and teenagers look at the cars stopping and thinking they can now cross, do not realise that a fastrack bus will be shooting through a totally hidden route, which at times is very confusing to all. I agree with your petition and would give you all the support you need to make the route much safer. I was at those lights at ten to eight that morning and was asked to turn my car around by a policeman, alls I could see was fire engines - but when it came on the radio a boy had been killed it made me cry - the thought of a mum and dad and family members getting the call about their beautiful and wonderful son. It still has made me cry, when I go past on my school run now and think about it constantly.
Sincere thoughts to all the family. I have read all the comments on this site and hope the whole family gets some comfort from reading them as their son was so obviously a lovely lad and a great footballer and a credit to them all.
Our thoughts are with you at this very sad and emotional time.

I want to scupper all the rumours that are going around about the behaviour of my sons just before Matthew was run over and killed by the fastract bus. Neither of them was mucking about or pushing and shoving each other or even playing with a ball. They were standing in the taffic island on Darenth Road waiting for the bus on Darenth Road to turn left to go up Princes Road to pass them - Matthew stepped out just as this bus passed them as was hit by the bus coming down the hill as it turned right into Darenth Road - he never saw the bus coming nor was his brother aware of this other bus. I have spoken to someone today who was travelling down Princes Road at the time of accident and he noticed that the bus appeared to be travelling rather faster than usual????????

Think of the driver?????, Sorry but we should only been thinking of Matthew and his family not a bus driver who took an inocent life weather it be on purpose or accidental, have you ever been hit by a car or something ??? My sister had when she was very young knocked her off her bike, she was lucky fact is the buses do drive like loonatics we all know that, my heart does go out to the bus driver but im not thinking of her she is still with us matthew is not. can anyone tell me what has happened to matthew football shirt its gone from the railings xxx

we- the family - have taken the football shirt down from the railings as we didn't want to be damaged by vandals or the weather - it has beed washed very carefully and kept with the rest of Matthews clothes at home - we has chosen to keep the cross insitu as we felt this is the most appropriate reminder of a very special young man. Dear mat

I was so shocked when i found out it was you who was hit i was told on msn. when i found i burst into tears and couldnt stop for a long time. my mum looked after you for a very long time and we had exelent times together even though we had some squabbles we were still mates. i miss you very much and i remeber when we had to do our spelling homwework you would always get them all right and you would help me ;} we had a great time a camp and we were in the same tent this year its gunna be so wierd without you. i remember when we got there we was singing wonderboy my tenacious D
