Charity supporters took part in a ‘Beat the Eggheads Quiz Night’ on Friday.

14 teams of six got to pit their wits against the original Freddie Farmer Eggheads team on October 31 at Sidcup Recreation Club, Church Avenue, Sidcup in an effort to raise funds for the Freddie Farmer Foundation.

Quizzers took part in a general knowledge quiz based around the popular BBC Eggheads show, which the Freddie Farmer Eggheads team first appeared in January 2013.

It was won by The Old Fatguttians who won £180 prize money.

A charity auction held after the quiz saw Stuart Spicer from Eltham bid £80 for a signed Millwall shirt which he duly presented to charity figurehead Freddie Farmer, who is a big Millwall fan.

The £1300 raised on the night will go towards purchasing therapy balls, floor mats and wedges for the new physiotherapy room in the Freddie Farmer physiotherapy centre, opening Bromley early 2015.

Charity officer, Anita Catchesides said: “It was a great evening and it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces and everyone having such a good time.

“A big heartfelt thanks to everyone for coming out on Halloween night to support the Freddie Farmer Foundation.

“Thanks as well to the staff at Sidcup Recreation Club, David Donovan and Richie & Dana Loveridge for their help and support and to The Old Fatguttians who donated their first prize winnings back to the Foundation.”

The Freddie Farmer Foundation was set up in 2011 by Dan Catchesides whose grandson Freddie Farmer has cerebral palsy. He decided to act after realising his Freddie, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, did not have enough support close to him.

After a long search for an intensive physiotherapy programme, the family were led further afield where they found the unique and intensive ‘Spider’ therapy. It helped Freddie make great progress and it soon became clear that a centre nearer home – where Freddie and children like him could get regular treatment – would be a godsend.
