Meopham Ladies Luncheon Club met on the 18th November at the Railway Inn, Sole Street, where the members enjoyed a 2 course meal of piping hot chicken and mushroom pie with seasonal vegetables and a delicous spotted dick and custard followed by coffee.
We were then entertained by Mrs Sue Thomas as she related her enrolement into nursing back in the 1960s.
She regaled us with tales of the student nursing exploits and the reason why she initally took up the call of nursing.
Her friends had told her what fun they had being nurses at the Middlesex Hospital and that it was partying every night, and being 18 at the time this appealed to her.
It was not until much later after qualifying that she really began to enjoy her chosen path.
Mrs Thomas was not keen on working on the wards, but found that Casualty/A&E was where she enjoyed working the most.
Mrs Thomas went on to a very varied, and it would seem to the members listening to her story, an exciting career with many facets.
Meopham Ladies enjoyed their Christmas Lunch at the December meeting, followed by members reciting poems and short stories.
The meeting in January will be on the third Wednesday.
