Emmanuel Baptist Church, Windmill Street, Gravesend are holding a Craft Fair on Saturday, November 20 from 10am to 2pm. Come along and have a browse and treat yourself and your friends and family. Excellent selection of produce stalls including cakes, jams, marmalade and chutneys. Knitted goods, wooden crafts, salt dough Christmas decorations, jewellery, decoupaged items, Christmas cakes and plants. Don’t miss this opportunity to pick up a bargain or put your feet up and have a cuppa. You can even have a go at a craft project yourself while the children have their faces painted.

Historical tour

On Sunday October 17 there is a guided historical tour of Gravesend meeting at 2.30pm outside the library in Windmill Street. The guide is Christoph Bull, the local historian and librarian. Tickets are £3, concessions £2.50. No need to book just turn up and pay on the day.

DGSM yourChoice will be hosting an exciting week of workshops to celebrate Learning Disability week next week. This is the fifth year of this very successful event which brings together people with learning disabilities and enables people to take part in new activities, learn new skills and meet new friends. During the week they will be launching their new book ‘Choices’. Students from the Professional Writing Foundation Degree course at North West Kent College Dartford have collaborated with people using DGSM yourChoice services and produced a book sharing stories about their lives.

Scallywags pre-school

Glynis Christopher opened Scallywags Pre-school in 1988 and last week achieved an OUTSTANDING Ofsted inspection report in all areas of learning, with the help and support from the 16 members of staff and volunteers. Town Regatta

As part of the town's 164th Town Reagtta held over the weekend of June 12 and 13, Bar 24, MInistry of Muscle in association with Hulk Power and Stength Gym present on the the 13th from 12 noon Gravesend's 2010 Strongman competition at the promenade, events include Farmer's walk with a weight in each hand, 110kg or 150kg; Log press above the head lift 110kg or 140kg; Car dead lift, which is a Mazda car mounted on a frame260kg or 320kg; the Truck pull, loading onto the back of a truck two barrels 80k and 90k, rubber block 100k and stone log 130k.

Town Regatta

This year's Town Regatta will be held at the Gordon Promenade and will feature River Races on June 12 and 13. These will include both ladies and mens teams from the Crown & Thistle, the Edinburgh Castle, the Waterloo, the George Inn, Prince Albert, the Wheatsheaf, the Terrace Tavern, the Barbarians, LPHA Denton and Charlton, TJ'S, Newbridge, Dockyard Dynamos, Asda, Gravesend Rowing Club and Andrews Lot. All of these teams are practising now to be ready and fit for a busy weekend of racing. On the promenade over both days will be Alf Smith's carnival funfair, trade and charity stalls, food and ice cream vendors, a licensed bar as well as our own Promenade cafe. Entertainment will include popular local singer Gary O'Connor, The Medina Eastern Belly Dancers, The Hamlands School of Dancing and disco music with Scott Collins on the Saturday. And on the Sunday will be the 2010 strong man competition hosted by Terry Coldwell from East 17 together with Martin Gee. This competition is sponsored by Bar 24. Other atrractions will inlcude the RNLI Display and in the Fort Gardens, the UK Paper Band will perform on the bandstand from 2-4pm.

On Saturday March 27 there is an 'Easter Eggy' Family craft day held by Riverview Baptist Fellowship at Whinfell Way scout hall from 2-4pm. Admission is free and includes salt dough, car-marking, painting, free refreshments, homemade cakes and jams for sale, nearly new book and cd stall. There will be a small charge for any craft materials that are used.
