DARENT Valley Hospital's free annual fun day and Stride 4 Life event has been re-scheduled.

The events were due to take place in the hospital grounds yesterday (July 8 ) but were cancelled due to bad weather.

They will now be held on September 16.

Fundraising manager, Tracey Cummins, said: "It is very sad that, despite all the work and time given by our volunteers to organise this day, we had to come to this decision but it was felt that the welfare and safety of our supporters was of prime importance."

Chair of the Stride 4 Life committee Joan Warwick said: "We have to put a brave face on these things and not let the weather beat us so we are determined that the work of all our volunteers and supporters will not go to waste by re-organising the day.

"The hospital needs the help of the community and our volunteers to help raise the money for equipment that is needed to help give the very best care for patients."

Cash raised from the events will go to the hospital's Cancer Fighting Fund.
