A BEXLEYHEATH kidney patient, who has won four medals at the World Transplant Games, rubbed shoulders with Olympians at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Sixteen-year-old George Mortlock, of Mount Road, met Sally Gunnell and Ade Adepitan at the opening of the children’s hospital’s Morgan Stanley Clinical building.

George had a kidney transplant in 1997 and captured two golds, a silver and a bronze medal in swimming at the 2009 World Transplant Games. He will carry the Olympic flame in Faversham next month.

He was representing the Great Britain Kidney Patient Association’s Children’s Kidney Centre, known as Eagle Ward.

Hospital chief executive Dr Jane Collins said: “Today was an important day for the hospital, for George to be part of it just demonstrates the incredible work we do here. I want to say a huge thank you to Sally Gunnell and Ade Adepitan for coming down to offer some words of encouragement to George and other current and former patients.”
