A NURSE will be tackling Peru's Inca Trail to raise cash for Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice.

Lynda Gibson has worked as a community nurse specialist at the hospice for three years and will be taking on the challenge from June 5 to June 15.

The 52-year-old said: "I like a challenge and what I am about to undertake in the next few weeks is definitely that.

"On the trip I will spend a considerable amount of time at altitude, across mountain passes and through cloud forests."

She added: "I’m aiming to raise at least £1,000 for Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice, a charity that is close to my heart."

The hospice provides free specialist end of life care for people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as providing support for their families, friends and carers.

Head of fundraising at the hospice, Stacey Booth, said: "I’m not aware of any other member of staff doing this particular challenge to raise funds for the hospice so it really is unique.

"We receive just one third of our funding from the NHS and rely on the support of local people, businesses, community groups and our network of shops to raise almost £4m annually to enable us to continue our vital work - it’s great to see one of our nurses taking on such a personal challenge for the hospice."
