TV presenter and singer Jane McDonald and singer Liz McClarnon are calling on runners of all abilities to set themselves a Spring fitness challenge and sign up to take part in the Age UK Crystal Palace 10k event and help support vulnerable older people across the country.

The stars, who are ambassadors for Age UK, are encouraging as many people as possible to sign up to the event, which is part of a national series of 10k and 2k Spring events taking place in March and is ideal for first timers and fun runners, as well as more serious competitors.

Participants who sign up to the event this year will be raising funds for Age UK’s work that supports vulnerable older people across the country such as tackling loneliness. Some funds raised this year will also enable Age UK Bromley & Greenwich to provide befriending and support services for local older people.

Liz McClarnon, who is currently preparing for an international tour with her band Atomic Kitten, said: “Age UK does fantastic work to support vulnerable older people locally and all over the country, including helping many who sadly face later life alone. Anyone can take part in the charity’s 10k events, which are a fantastic way to get fit, have fun and raise money to support older people.”

Jane McDonald, who is performing in concert across the UK, said: “I’ve supported Age UK for many years and know what a difference their work makes to the lives of so many older people, including those who are struggling to cope on a daily basis. Everyone who takes part in Age UK’s 10k race will be helping to make a difference in Bromley & Greenwich and across the country, so now’s the time to don your trainers and get involved!”

The 10k trail run starts and ends at the renowned Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium, giving participants that extra boost for a sprint finish. This is a chip-timed race with a medal and goodies for finishers.
