Bromley Little Theatre Amateur Dramatic Company has generously donated the first preview production of 'The Thrill of Love' on February 6 to the Chartwell Cancer Trust (CCT). The CCT is a registered charity set up to solely fund extra staff at the Chartwell Cancer Unit of The PRUH, Farnborough.

The Thrill of Love is the story of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain at the age of 29. The venue, in the heart of Bromley is reminiscent of the 1950's Soho Clubs. One could easily imagine a Spiv in a Trilby loitering outside, cigarette hanging from the corner of his mouth, inviting the passing public to take a trip to the dark side. Ruth Ellis was convicted of the cold blooded murder of her unfaithful lover and hanged on the 13th July 1959. This gripping play takes a new look at the real woman behind the headlines and the events that drove her to murder. A divorcee with a young child to care for, Ruth works in the kind of clubs where there's more than a drink on offer. The girls work hard, play hard and dream of a movie star lifestyle. Then she meets the wealthy, womanising David, a racing driver with whom she becomes obsessed. Fame comes, but not in the way she imagines. Why does the relationship end in murder? Why does she plead not guilty but offer no defence? Why does she show no remorse? And just who is she trying to protect?

Caution: This production may contain gunshots, smoking, strong language, scenes of a sexual nature and recreational drug use.
