DESPITE the unpredictable nature of the weather during July, we have managed to get out and about enjoying ourselves as much as possible.

On July 4 another visit was made to Crayford Greyhound Stadium for the morning meeting.

A “brunch” was included and one member is reported to have had the good fortune to pick and back the right dogs.

A very good time was had by those attending.

On July 8 a group of members went to the Wheatshead at Bexhill-on-Sea for a very enjoyable lunch.

The afternoon was spent in Eastbourne enjoying either the opportunity for some shopping or just sitting in the fresh air and sunshine. Another good day.

At the monthly meeting on July 21, SAGA ambassador Shirley Leslie presented details of the holidays available for the over 50s from Saga Holidays.

There are many types of holidays available and the presentation explained these.

On July 29 a group of members travelled to London to visit the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising which is situated in the Notting Hill district.

This museum is well laid out, giving the history of well-known brands and the manner in which they have been packaged and advertised from the late 19th century to the present day.

After lunch we travelled to the Chelsea Physic Garden, which was founded by the Worshipful Company of Apothecaries of London in 1673 on land leased from Sir Hans Sloane.

The garden contains many plants from which some of the drugs in use in medicine today are derived.

This was a very absorbing and thoroughly worthwhile visit.

At present the walking and ten pin bowling sections are taking a well earned rest.
