NORTH Kent Federation of Townswomen's Guilds held an 80th anniversary celebration with a luncheon at the King William Restaurant in the Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

All eight guilds in the Federation were represented, including Bexleyheath afternoon, Bexleyheath morning, Blackheath afternoon, Dartford Central, Eltham afternoon, Eltham Park afternoon, Lee evening and Welling evening.

The chairman of Townswomen's Guilds, Mrs Sue Smith and the Vice Chairman, Mrs June Mortlock, were invited to come from Birmingham headquarters for the occasion.

Mrs Smith gave a lively and interesting talk, enjoyed by all. The luncheon closed at 3.45pm.

Townswomen's guilds originated following the suffrage movement.

The guilds enjoyed monthly meetings in their particular area and also meeting together for special events.

The guilds follow many interests including choirs, homecraft, quizzes, outings and talks on many subjects.
