ROWHILL members always look forward to an evening with a difference for their June meeting and this year a full coach of eager ladies set off for Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead, West Sussex.

This lovely sandstone manor was built in 1792 and the several owners throughout the years have all left their own individual trademark on this very impressive building.

One of the unique features of the manor is the huge monkey mural painted by Sir Winston Churchill’s nephew, John Spencer Churchill – a real talking point.

The Manor is set in 59 acres of landscaped gardens and Rowhill members were shown many of its interesting aspects – including a waterfall – in their stroll around the grounds.

We then enjoyed a very pleasant supper and refreshments, together with musical accompaniment, and our host, Liz, certainly knew the history of the building, which made the visit extremely interesting.

Well done, committee members, for organising the event.

The week before, many members and friends were enjoying a holiday at Llandudno and the weather was very kind to them.

There were a few hiccups along the way, but the stalwart Rowhill members know how to enjoy themselves and that they certainly did.

Many thanks, Eileen, for once again organising the break away.

Before our next meeting we shall be supporting a charity cream tea and also taking part in the Bat and Trap competition with other local institutes. Rowhill meets on the third Thursday of the month at St Peter’s, Hextable.
