On Wednesday the 14th October, Mr Charles Young gave a very informative talk entitled “LACES” or the London Anti-Crime Education Scheme.
Having spent twenty years of his life in and out of prison he was ideally placed to explain why he got into crime and what it was like to be in prison.
He decided to turn a leaf over and use his experiences to deter youngsters from turning to crime.
His illustrated presentation clearly showed what prison was like and very well explained the inner angry mindset of the young criminal and their inabilities to understand the realities of life.
Charles has given a lot of talks to schools and young offenders institutes.
His work is much needed these days with rapidly increasing prison populations. It is well in line with Government policy and yet he is still waiting for a grant to continue and extend his crusade.
The Rotary Club of Orpington meets every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm at Chelsfield Lakes Golf Club. Anyone interested in membership should contact our secretary Terry on 01689 826478.
