4:00pm Monday 30th November 2009 in Chislehurst By Hannah Cordwell - community correspondent
As a citizen of Chislehurst for the past twelve years, I have always looked forward to the annual firework and bonfire display to celebrate Guy Fawkes night.
For the past eleven years I have, along with my family, watched the display from the back bedroom window. Partly because it is warm and partly because we have a very good view from there. However this year with my family off doing other things my sister and I invited some friends along and ventured down to the Rec to be part of the atmosphere.
The mini fun-fair was very exciting for all the children who attended, so my group of friends and U got into the spirit and joined in. The coconut shy was very popular and seemed to be doing well especially among the older generation that attended. The fun and games continued for the rest of the evening too.
When the fireworks started everyone gathered around the Bonfire which was huge and gave off a lovely warmth. When the fireworks started the traditional oohing and aahhing began. The firework display was fantastic and lived up to everyone's expectations, The Rec was very full and it took ages for everyone to get out. Everyone was buzzing and was talking excitedly about what they had just seen.
Now I can finally say I've been to Chislehurst fireworks, and it was worth the wait.
