Two members of the Friends of South Hill Wood and Kingswood Glen will be researching and providing information about the Voluntary Aid Detachment hospital at South Hill Wood, the home of Prudential chairman Sir Thomas Charles Dewey.

There were two wards in the hospital, set up in the music pavilion in the grounds of the house. The nurses in attendance were Miss Davis and Miss Larkin.

Initially the hospital cared for Belgian soldiers and then later British. Sir Dewey received a medal from the King of Belgium, Albert II, for his services and personal care of the soldiers.

FSHWKG would be grateful if anyone has any mementos, memories, photographs, or literature from this time could they please get in touch via the Bromley Local Studies and Library on 020 8461 7170.
