Bexley Civic Society

MEMBERS gathered at Danson Mansion on September 4 when the Mayor of Bexley Councillor Nigel Betts joined them to celebrate the placing of a plaque in the breakfast room.

The plaque celebrated the endeavours of the society in saving the house from destruction.

For 30 years the society has pressured for its refurbishment and this was achieved when English Heritage took over and restored the mansion magnificently.

The society was formed after the Danson Stables were saved by the late Peter Barnes and his campaigning friends but the mansion had to wait further.

The marble plaque is similar to the one put up in the entrance hall to commemorate the Queen's visit in 2005.

Peter Hofford, the society's chairman, thanked everyone for their help and co-operation.
