MEMBERS met up again at the start of the new season at St Lawrence's Hall, Main Road, Sidcup.

The opening speaker was Neil Trueman who produced an array of slides to illustrate his talk on the Thames from the Barrier to the Isle of Dogs.

The slides recorded the change in the river vista during the past 30 years or so.

Only the water remained the same.

Skyscrapers now dominate the skyline, dwarfing the few remaining older buildings.

New additions include expensive riverside flats, the Visitors' Centre at the Barrier, the David Beckham Academy. the Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park and, of course, the Dome, now The O2.

Beautiful sights still remain, however. Trinity Hospital nestling in the shadow of the old Greenwich Power Station, the Gipsy Moth and the Dolphin Sundial at the National Maritime Museum are all attractive additions.

The next meeting on October 2 will be the general meeting, followed by a tribute to scouting. when reminiscences will be welcomed.

On October 16, Ian Hammerton will talk on Joydens Wood.
