It seems we're not the only ones Wild About Thamesmead... so are all of you!!! How do we know? Because you voted in your droves for Wild About Thamesmead in ITV's People's Millions contest, which won £50,000 to reopen Thamemead's beautiful nature reserve, Tump53 and bringing residents closer to nature.

Due to reopen in 2014, Tump53 which will be managed by London Wildlife Trust and supported by Trust Thamesmead and Gallions Housing Association, will offer...

- Visits to schoolchildren

- Regular volunteer days to improve the Tump and teach convervation skills

- A series of open days, workshops and events for the whole community

Trust Thamesmead's Head of Partnerships & Engagement, Lucy Webb said: “We are delighted to see this opportunity to bring such an important community resource back into regular use.  More importantly, this win demonstrates what can be achieved when the local community joins together in collective action and we want to thank Thamesmead’s residents and the wider Thamesmead community for coming out in force on Tuesday and voting for Wild about Thamesmead”.

Gareth Morgan, Director of London Regions with London Wildlife Trust, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support shown for Tump 53. Local residents love this green oasis in the heart of their community, and this was shown in the strength of the voting on Tuesday.

“Tump 53 is a fantastic site but a lack of resources has meant that the reserve remained locked up and poorly used. Winning the People’s Millions will allow us to really invest in this unique site, enriching the local wildlife and enhancing the lives of those who live around Tump 53.”

Kelly Sullivan, Community Engagement Officer from Gallions Housing Association echoed the thoughts of the partners saying: “It’s a great project that everyone can be proud to be a part of, and because of great partnership working we are able to restore a wonderful green space for all Thamesmead residents to enjoy.”
