AN Interior Designer from Welling has scooped top prize in the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice Lottery draw.
Doug, 46, from Sutherland Avenue said ‘he couldn’t believe his luck when he heard the news’.
“I’ve never won anything in my life. It was such a pleasant surprise.”
Doug only joined the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice Lottery in August and never dreamt he would actually win!
“A gentleman from the Hospice knocked on my door and told me all about the weekly Hospice lottery,” said Doug.
“He told me all about the services the Hospice provides.
“I wanted to support my local hospice so I joined there and then. But I couldn’t believe it when I received the phone call telling me I was the jackpot winner; I thought it was a joke!”
Doug was presented with the winning cheque last Friday (October 5).
He is thinking of spending his winnings on a family holiday with his wife and 18-year-old son.
“The Hospice lottery promotions team regularly knock on doors throughout Greenwich and Bexley to let people know about the Hospice lottery and how it supports their local Hospice,” said lottery manager Rachel Williams.
“The team wear a Hospice uniform and always carry identification with them.
“Every penny of profit from the lottery goes straight towards funding our work, helping ensure that we can provide our specialist care completely free of charge, and players are also in with a chance of winning fantastic cash prizes! Everyone’s a winner!”
Anyone over the age of 16 can sign up to the weekly draw at £2 per week.
